In a press release from the FBI, FBI Special Agent in Charge of the FBI Portland Field Office Kieran Ramsey stated, "Today is about thanking our partners, partners across our community, partners from law enforcement, and our partners at the U.S. Attorney's Office. St. Helens Police Chief Brian Greenway stated, "Lieutenant Hogue goes above and beyond his normal duties by taking on this additional workload to ensure our nation has future leaders who can continue to make us the greatest country in the world."

Lt. Hogue began working for the St. Helens Police Department as a reserve officer in 1996. He was hired as a patrol officer in July 1998. During his time at the St. Helens Police Department, he became the use-of-force and defensive tactics instructor for the Department.
