Can you ID Me? - Package Theft and Safety Tips

Do you recognize this individual?
On Friday, December 11, at 9:32 a.m., this individual stole a package off the front porch of a home on Oak Glen Drive in St. Helens. The person may have been following the mail delivery vehicle and watching for packages to be delivered. The individual appears to be a white male. If you have any information about the identity of this individual, please contact the St. Helens Police Department at 503-397-1521.
Other reports have been received over the weekend of mail thefts in St. Helens and Scappoose and thefts from unlocked vehicles. During the holiday season, we usually see an increase in mail and package thefts. Below are some safety tips to secure your belongings and help keep your holidays merry and bright.
Mail and Package Safety
#1 Ship packages with care.
Doorstep package theft is everywhere. Have your packages delivered to a lock box or your work if you are able to do so. If you have a trusted neighbor that is at home during your work hours, ask them to grab your package for you if they see it delivered and store it at their house so you can pick it up when you get home. If you can add delivery instructions to the shipping information, ask the delivery person to tuck your package in a less visible spot.
#2 Check your mailbox often.
#3 Consider installing a locking mailbox or using a P.O. Box instead.
#4 Think twice before posting a picture or status update.
Thieves now rely heavily on social media to find out if you’re traveling for the holidays and if your home is unoccupied. That beautiful picture you posted of your trip is wonderful, but it can also be an open advertisement to thieves.
#5 Sign up for delivery alerts so you know when your package has arrived.
Vehicle Safety
#1 Lock your vehicle if it is parked in a driveway or on the street.
#2 Do not leave valuables in your vehicle.
#3 If you must leave items inside your vehicle, you can reduce the risk of theft by securing items in your trunk or out of view. Keep this in mind while you are shopping at stores as well.
