Reconnecting to your Riverfront

Fence removal along riverfront property with public works crew and machinery around site.

You spoke and we listened.

We are excited to announce that this week St. Helens Public Works crews have been working hard to improve community access to the St. Helens riverfront. Public Works crews have removed approximately 350 feet of fencing and overgrown vegetation along the slope from the end of South 1st Street to the basalt stairs that lead to South 2nd Street. This will create easier walking access to the riverfront property and help improve the visual aesthetics of the area, all while keeping the area a non-motorized recreational spot for the community to enjoy.

Next steps will include the removal of more fencing along South 1st Street and near Columbia View Park, the removal of more vegetation, and grading work to make the riverfront more easily accessible.

Since the start of the Waterfront Redevelopment Project, feedback from the St. Helens community has consistently shown that creating public access to the riverfront is a top priority for residents and businesses. While City staff and the City Council have been working hard on a number of plans for the riverfront area, we are excited about this new phase of work that the community can see and enjoy.

Come down, check out the progress, and enjoy your St. Helens riverfront.
