John Brewington Commended for Over 20 Years of Service to City

At today’s Work Session, the St. Helens City Council recognized John Brewington for over 20 years of service on the Parks & Trails Commission. He received a plaque commemorating his time on the Commission and a key to the City in recognition of his accomplishments.

Brewington first served on the Parks Commission from July 1983 to November 1984. He returned to the Commission 18 years later to serve for another 20 years (January 2002 - February 2022).

During his service, Brewington helped coordinate community involvement in projects that have shaped the face of the city. He assisted in implementing improvements to McCormick and Campbell Park. The amphitheater at Columbia View Park was part of his efforts with local volunteers. He was also a founder of 13 Nights on the River, among other projects.

In his letter of resignation, Brewington said of his time on the Commission: “I love the direction the City and parks are going. . . It took a lot of good people and a willing city to build our wonderful parks system. For a city of our size to have the parks we do is amazing.

“A lot has been done, but there is almost always more to do. . . I’m happy that I could be a part of the many things we accomplished. I thank all those that have had the vision and capability to get things done. Thanks to all of you who continue to make so much possible.”
