Happy Earth Day - Thank You Nob Hill Volunteers
Happy Earth Day, St. Helens! We think it’s exciting that Earth Day and National Volunteer Week overlap. It’s hard to find two things that go together better.
St. Helens gives us the gift of beautiful landscape, lush greenery, and plenty of beautiful views. It may seem like nature does it all on its own, but behind the scenes, it’s hard work from volunteers that help keep many of our parks looking pristine.
Earlier this month, on April 3, over 30 people got together to take care of Nob Hill Nature Park and 5th Street Trail. Throughout the park the Friends of Nob Hill Nature Park and Scout Troops 106 and 294 cleared out 30+ bags of invasive ivy, laying gravel along trails, weeding, planting, and mulching. According to the Scappoose Bay Watershed Council, they even removed enough tires to build a truck of their own! They put in a combined total of over 100 hours of volunteer time.
The City of St. Helens – and the planet – extend an Earth Day thank you to the Friends of Nob Hill Nature Park, Scappoose Bay Watershed Council, and Girl Scout Troops 106 and 294 for their hard work caring for part of St. Helens’ natural heart.
