Explore the Outdoors at St. Helens' Many Parks
Does more than a year of lockdowns and stress have you feeling more stir-crazy than usual? Here’s every nook and cranny of St. Helens' many parks you can explore.
Did you know that St. Helens has 13 different parks? At those parks you can access everything from a splash pad to picnic shelters, softball fields, a BMX track, horseshoe pits, playgrounds, off-leash dog areas, trails, camping, disc golf, and more!
Explore 135 acres and walk 4.5 miles of trails, right here in St. Helens - all within less than five square miles.

6th Street Park

6th Street Park is roughly 2.9 acres of flat park area. It has two little league baseball fields with dugouts, seating, and a concession stand. Removable goal posts can be used to convert the area into a soccer field as well.
Campbell Park

Campbell Park has a picnic and playground area surrounded by native trees. The park area includes restrooms, drinking fountains, two covered picnic areas, two lighted softball fields with bleachers, and playground equipment. The old tennis courts are currently being renovated to include brand new flex sports courts, storm drainage improvements, and additional parking. Learn more at the Campbell Park Improvements page.

Civic Pride Park is an open, grassy area with stone pathways and park benches, perfect for relaxing!
Columbia Botanical Garden

The Columbia Botanical Garden trail was constructed at the site of an old rock quarry. Within the site there is very little soil; instead you’ll pass through swampy areas and large moss-covered boulders. Vegetation abounds throughout the park and includes evergreen and deciduous trees, many wild shrubs, and swamp plants. The trail is a gravel-covered nature trail through a natural landscape. There is a single trailhead which leads to several paths within the park.
Columbia View Park

Columbia View Park is on the riverfront with beautiful views of Mount Hood. The terraced hillside is home to the outdoor Columbia View Amphitheater, site of the summer 13 Nights on the River concert series and other events throughout the year. The park area features handicap accessible restrooms with coin-operated showers, a gazebo with electricity, a playground, splash pad, picnic tables, benches, a historic plaque, and a life jacket loaner station located near the City's public dock entrance.
Dalton Lake
Dalton Late Area & Nature Preserve contains several miles of trails and paved bike paths to explore. 130 species of birds have been documented by private parties in the area.
Godfrey Park

Godfrey Park is in a shady, wooded area. Amenities at Godfrey Park include a drinking fountain, a gravel trail that leads to 2nd Street, a covered picnic shelter, playground equipment, four horseshoe courts, a horse statue, bike racks, picnic tables, and park benches.
Grey Cliffs Park

The lower level of Grey Cliffs Park contains a flat, grassy viewing area with a path that leads to the riverfront. The upper level is a grassy off-leash pet area situated on a bluff, next to a cliff of basalt. Amenities include picnic tables, benches, riverfront access, fishing, overlook viewing areas, a historic plaque, a fish statue, bike racks, and restrooms. The park recently received some major upgrades thanks to several grants. It now has restrooms, a paved parking lot, and improvements to the non-motorized (think kayaks) boat launch area.
Heinie Heumann Park

Heinie Heumann Park, located near the St. Helens Senior Center, is dotted with mature native trees and carpeted with soft grass. Amenities in the park include picnic tables, see-saws, and a community garden on the border by the senior center. A fenced off-leash dog area was recently added to the park.
McCormick Park

McCormick Park is one of the most popular and largest parks in St. Helens. It is the home of numerous sporting and recreation amenities, including baseball fields, covered picnic areas, a skateboard park, BMX track, a 1.5 mile fitness trail, 1 mile of nature trails, and an 18-hole disc golf course. It is also the future home of the Pacific Northwest’s largest all-abilities playground – expected to be completed later this year. McCormick Park is also home to the newly expanded Veteran’s Memorial Plaza, which honors fallen soldiers of Columbia County. Milton Creek runs through the park, which is also on the same property that is home to the St. Helens Public Library.
Nob Hill Nature Park

Nob Hill is an oak woodland habitat perched on a basalt bluff with views of where the Columbia River and the Multnomah Channel collide. It is filled with native white oak trees, as well as shrubs, wildflowers, and lilies. The nature park makes a great place for bird watching and flower study, or just a walk along the 1/3 mile nature trail loop. You can also get involved: The Friends of Nob Hill Nature Park, in conjunction with the Scappoose Bay Watershed Council, hold volunteer work parties twice a year to remove invasive plants, including English ivy, holly, and blackberries.
Sand Island Marine Park
Sand Island Marine Park & Campground is accessible by kayak or shuttle boat. It is a unique man-made island in the center of the Columbia River. Explore 31.7 acres of docks, nature trails, beaches, campsites, and more. More information about campsite reservations and shuttle access can be found at sandislandcampground.com.
Walnut Tree Park

Walnut Tree Park is a pocket park planted with a massive 100+ year-old walnut tree as its main feature. This park was adopted and is maintained by the Kiwanis Day Breakers Club of St. Helens. Amenities include an artistic bench created by welding students at St. Helens High School and a picnic table.
