ST. HELENS PUBLIC LIBRARY BOOK CLUB

St. Helens, Ore. – Join the St. Helens Public Library Board as they launch a new book club where each participant gets to decide what book he or she reads. The next book club meeting is scheduled for Thursday, January 11, at 7 p.m. inside the St. Helens Public Library.

Unlike traditional book clubs where everyone reads the same title and then gets together to discuss it, the St. Helens Public Library Book Club selects a theme. Participants read a book of their own choosing that fits the selected theme and then discuss their various picks at the meeting.

The group held its first meeting on October 19, 2017, and in keeping with the October holiday, chose a mystery theme with a Halloween twist.

“The Halloween-themed kick off for the book club was a spooktacular success,” said Leanne Murray, co-leader of the book club and vice chair of the St. Helens Library Board. “Ten of us were introduced to new books and authors and had a lot of fun discussing them. We’re off to a great start.”

The next St. Helens Public Library Book Club theme is food. With many people cooking meals and baking special items for the holiday season, this theme was chosen to compliment a seasonal activity that almost everyone participates in during this time of the year.

Book selections can be fiction or nonfiction but should somehow relate to the food theme. If anyone needs help selecting a title to read, the St. Helens Public Library has a collection of books set aside for each meeting that fits the book club’s current theme. Ask a Library staff member at the circulation desk to see the assorted books that were hand-selected for the book club.

The St. Helens Public Library Book Club is being facilitated by members of the Library Board. You can sign up at the Library’s circulation desk to be added to the email list for meeting updates.
