MakerFest Brings Hands-on Technology to St. Helens Public Library

St. Helens, Ore. – The St. Helens Public Library invites the community to roll up their sleeves for a day of hands-on making at the library. MakerFest, a day devoted to active learning, returns to the Library on Saturday, February 23 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
MakerFest is loosely based on the maker movement, a social movement that emphasizes learning-through-doing in a social, informal setting. The activities at St. Helens Public Library’s MakerFest are rooted in the Library’s STEM programs for youth. STEM stands for science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. In January 2017, the Library began offering a “Make It!” program that offers multi-session STEM, do-it-yourself, and art activities for elementary and middle school students.
The February 23 MakerFest event is open to all ages, but is especially designed for youth ages five to 14. Stations set up at the Library will include circuitry activities, LEGO building, origami, stop-motion animation, button-making, demonstrations by SHREC 5450 (St. Helens High School robotics club) and the St. Helens High School rapid manufacturing class, and more. Pre-registration is not required and you do not need a library card to attend.
