Genetic Genealogist Shares Tips and Tricks on DNA Testing at Library

St. Helens, Ore. – You’ve probably watched the ads on TV or seen a post as you scroll through your news feed on social media. Different DNA testing companies promise that with a quick and simple test, you can learn a wealth of information about yourself and your family history. Maybe you’ve already had your DNA tested or the idea sounds intriguing, but you’re unsure of just how accurate those tests really are.
St. Helens Public Library invites the community to attend a special presentation by Emily Aulicino called “You and DNA Testing” on Monday, May 6 at 6:30 p.m. in the Columbia Center auditorium, 375 S. 18th Street. This meeting is hosted by the Genial Genealogists, a community group that meets monthly at the Library to learn about genealogy and collaborate on their family history research.
Emily Aulicino is the speaker and regional coordinator for the International Society of Genetic Genealogists (ISOGG). She presents nationally and internationally about genetic genealogy and how DNA testing can help supplement your family research. She is the author of “Genetic Genealogy: The Basics and Beyond” and “‘Memoing’ Your Memories.”
At the St. Helens Public Library presentation, Aulicino will share how DNA testing aids traditional genealogical research and can support or disprove the paper trail of your research. Learn what testing can really tell you about your family history and why one DNA test might be a better fit than another depending on the information that you are trying to learn.
Genial Genealogists is a group that meets on the first Monday of every month at St. Helens Public Library. The group is open to anyone interested in learning information about their family tree. From learning about the basics to finding out where to find the harder stuff, each meeting covers a unique topic of research and a time for general questions.
