St. Helens Urban Renewal Open House

St. Helens, Ore. – The City of St. Helens is hosting an urban renewal open house on Tuesday, February 21, from 6 to 8 p.m. in the St. Helens Council Chambers located at City Hall, 265 Strand Street. A short presentation will begin at 6:30 p.m. Light refreshments will be provided.

Urban renewal is a funding tool used throughout Oregon to provide infrastructure financing to implement city plans in specific areas. It is not a new tax on property. Project revenues are generated through annual property tax growth and new investments within the project area. Project examples include road extensions, parking infrastructure, new parks and open spaces, streetscape improvements, wayfinding and utility upgrades.

The proposed St. Helens urban renewal project area includes the waterfront, Highway 30, Old Portland Road and the St. Helens Street/Columbia Boulevard couplet.

During the open house, participants will be able to speak directly with the urban renewal project planners and provide input on the project. In addition, the event will include a short presentation on the plan goals, implementation timeline, and proposed projects.
