Employees Recognized for 5 Years of Service During City Council Work Session

Thank you, Michele and Roger, for 5 Years of Service!

During today’s City Council meeting, the Council presented two employees with Length of Service awards. Library Assistant Michele Karmartsang and Building Maintenance Utility Worker Roger Stauffer were recognized for five years of service with the City of St. Helens.

Michele Karmartsang joined the St. Helens Public Library in 2016 as a part-time Library Assistant, where she continues to serve patrons of the Library. According to Library Director Margaret Jeffries, Michele is “known to our library patrons as someone who remembers their reading interests and makes great book recommendations. She serves on the City’s Safety Committee, is a member of the Library’s social media team, helps with our genealogy programs, and supplies her co-workers with amazing macarons – different flavors every day!” During the meeting, Jeffries also recognized Michele for doing an exemplary job keeping staff up to date on COVID-19 research and guidelines throughout the past year. Her coworkers express gratitude for the chance to work with someone who brings great ideas and positivity to the Library every day.

Roger Stauffer began working for the City in 2016 as the City’s Building Maintenance Utility Worker, where he serves today. In January 2017 he was named Employee of the Year for being a person who takes on projects with initiative and leadership; uses his personal experience and ingenuity to come up with solutions; is selfless with his time; and has a positive attitude everywhere he goes. During the meeting, Mayor Rick Scholl commended Roger for being someone “who is utilized everywhere throughout the city” and “whose knowledge of construction has proven to be very helpful on a lot of our projects.” He is described as a great guy and a great worker who always works hard – “ask anyone!” insists Field Supervisor Buck Tupper.

Thank you for your service, Michele and Roger! The City is grateful for all the work you both do.
