ST. HELENS POLICE DEPARTMENT TO SWEAR IN OFFICER SANTA CLAUS

St. Helens, Ore. – The St. Helens Police Department invites the public to attend the swearing in of its newest St. Helens patrol officer. Officer Santa Claus will be sworn in at the St. Helens City Council Regular Session meeting on Wednesday, December 6 at 7 p.m. The Council Chambers are located at St. Helens City Hall, 265 Strand Street, St. Helens, OR 97051.

On November 28, 2017, the St. Helens Police Department (SHPD) began chronicling Officer Claus’ quest for employment as a St. Helens patrol officer on its Facebook and Twitter accounts. Claus appeared as a mystery candidate working his way through the Department’s hiring process in order to protect his identity in case he failed any of his required testing and background checks.

While Officer Claus will only be able to work at the St. Helens Police Department briefly due to prior international business commitments at the end of December, the SHPD feels confident that the St. Helens community will benefit from his impressive skill set in the short time he will work in St. Helens.

“We are very fortunate that someone of Claus’ caliber expressed such a strong interest in working for our Department,” said St. Helens Police Chief Terry Moss. “He has 17 centuries of experience working with children and youth and has never missed a day of work. All his references said that he has an uncanny ability to tell who is being bad or good, and he has a remarkable track record of turning naughty behavior into good conduct.”

The St. Helens Police Department will live stream Officer Claus’ swearing in on its Facebook page for anyone not able to attend the City Council meeting (@StHelensPD or https://www.facebook.com/StHelensPD/). Officer Claus’ day-to-day work as a patrol officer will also be featured regularly on the Department’s Facebook and Twitter accounts.

As updates are shared on social media, the complete story is also archived on the SHPD’s website: https://www.ci.st-helens.or.us/police/page/shpd-winter-2017-campaign.
