St. Helens Police Canine Program

The St. Helens Police Department Canine Master is Officer Jon Eggers. Officer Eggers has been with the department since 1999. His canine partner, a 2 year old pure-bred German Shepherd named "Bosco", began working with him in 2003. "Bosco" was initially trained in the Czech Republic before traveling to the California where he was acquired by the department. In April of 2003, "Bosco" completed a ten-week canine master school given by the Portland Police Bureau. "Bosco" further received his certification from the Oregon Police Canine Association.

The St. Helens Police Canine team is a support unit for St. Helens Police patrol staff and other agencies throughout the county. Officer Eggers and Bosco have already been deployed numerous times since their graduation from the K-9 academy. These deployments have often resulted in the capture of persons involved in criminal activity and/or the recovery of items of evidence.
